Calling all S600 owners !

What is the average city/highway consumption on these cars ?

Without sounding sarcastic, with a V12 in a W140 chassis, fuel consumption should be the last of your worries. :eek:

I see about 18 and change running straight highway...That's being fairly 'good' but w/ a few quick runs up to 110-120 just to keep things interesting.

I've checked it on about 10 tanks driving back and forth from FL to GA and GA to VA.

Don't bother keeping track of my around town mileage..I don't really want to know, nor do I drive it around town much..defeats the purpose of this car (IMHO).

About the fuel consumption of an S600?

If they are concerned about fuel economy, then they shouldn't buy one.

A W140 chassis by itself is expensive to own, but the M120 V12 will put an owner on his knees, begging for mercy.

Yes no one cares how much fuel a $130,000 car burns.

Can't say mine has been bad (knock on said wood). But I do take Great pains to keep everything in the engine rooms as cool as humanly possible.
I've removed all the cladding/encapsulation, installed resistors inline on the temp sensors so the aux fans come on @ 92. Use the "rest" button w/ temps on max every time the car is parked. Lastly, I have fans in the garage and each time she comes in the hood goes up and the fans on full for the next few hours.
Full synthetic fluids (Except SLS and Brake) on an overly cautious schedule..and I rarely drive the car around town..Last thing a 600 needs to be doing is doddling about from stop light to stop light.

My biggest problems thus far were a rad that was starting to corode from having lived by the shore for a while, a climate control push button that lost it's mind and some temp sensors that were getting a bit wonky.

I'm also hoping that the Germans built better cars for themselves then for their customers abroad (brought her over in 99).

Regardless of what a car cost when new, owners should know what kind of gas mileage is expected out of the car. A drop in the numbers suggests something is wrong, and requires attention.

My 95 S600 averaged 10-12 mpg in the city. My commute includes many stops, and traffic can come to a crawl quite often. On the highway, doing 75-80 mph, with 2 adult passengers and luggage, with AC on, I would get 22-23 mpg.
