W201 central locking help
I have a 93 W201 with a wiring problem. I think I have to rewire the central locking system, as it is blowing the fuse with the pump connectors disconnected. This means that there is a short to ground somewhere in the circuit. However, I am not sure how the system power works and the manual is not too helpful.
Does anyone know the vacuum pump pin functions? There is a rectangular connector with 2 heavier gauge wires going to it....red and brown. Are these the power/ground to run the pump? The round connector has 3 pins, 2 of them green and one brown (if I remember correctly). What are these? Any help appreciated. cheers |
Click on the "DIY Articles" tab at the top of this page. One of the articles outlines adding keyless entry to... I think a 124. (It should be essentially the same for your 201.)
The article will help you decifer what's what on the system. Good luck... post back with your results. Jeff Pierce |
there are 3 other things on the fuse that could blow it.lights in the doors if broken could be grounding etc.

Thanks. I have eliminated the lights as the problem and don't have power seats. Besides, I looked at the wiring conduit under the passenger's seat and the wires for this system are melted together in a nice big clump. Rather than tear out the centre console etc to find/replace the whole harness, I think it would be simpler to disconnect at the power supply and rewire the system.
