Engine won't start

Can someone help me. i was driving @ high speed, engine stumbled and i coasted to emergency lane. Can died and would not crank.i looked under the hood exhaust was fire engine red!!! Towed car home. Tried to start.Starter turning but engine does not seem to be firing. I just replaced the engine idle control and all the hoses. My car is a 1987 190e 2.6 gas engine. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
