In my 1977 300d the defroster always blows no matter what the controls are set on. Is this suposed to happen? If not how do I remedy this? All help would be greatly appriciated.

David,

Air through the upper vents is the default mode. It is very likely that you have a vacuum leak somewhere that is not allowing the actuator to close and direct air to the center vents.
