torn axle boot 200 miles from home? w116

I'm visiting my wife's family in Las Vegas, 200 miles from home. I just discovered a torn inner axle boot on my w116 300sd. The boot is leaking gear oil? My wifes cousin has no tools.

Can I make it home?

Any shop recomendations in Las Vegas?
I usually do all my own repair work and if I need to just replace the axle, can I risk driving it home or will I be stranded in the desert?

Grease and duct tape come to mind. You won't keep oil in there, but grease is almost as good.

i've also heard of folks using liquid rubber that is used for dipping tool handles. Paint it on while rotating axle and let harden for more perm repair.

Prob harder to find today than duct tape.

OK I'll try it.
My way home only passes through ghosttown's , Kelso, Amboy, so not a chance for a shop to help with repairs on the way.
My thriftyness will get the best of me sooner or later.
I hope later.

That will get you home no problem. Buy some MOLY grease and stuff the joint with it. The joints are pretty tough.
