HI GUYS ITS TOM AGAIN...THE PROBLEM IS WITH MY 380SEC..WHEN I AM DRIVEING AND HIT A BUMP OR STOP I HERE A GRUNT IN THE FRONT END...IT SOUNDS VERY BAD ...PLEASE TELL ME WHAT COULD THAT BE THANKS AGAIN:D:D:D:D:D:confused: CONFUSED.

what kind of car? how many miles?
 

how old is it? It is probably the front suspension needing to be rebuilt. Bushings, ball joints, some of the links etc.

I suspect that some of these items are worn on my 1985 300D project car (219k miles) because of the noises I hear when going over bumps while turning. I have rebuild the suspension on the "to do" list over the next six months.

I would guess that the cost could run anywhere from $200 to $400 per corner based on how much work you plan on doing yourself.

Hey Tom. Check the shocks .when the wear they get very moany and groany.Where in the front is it coming from?

james its tom ......i cant tell it sounds like it mite be a bushing on the rite front.

I just recently went through something like this. When ever I would turn the wheel I would get a creeking, groaning sound. Also when ever I got out of the car, I would here it as the body raised up. It turned out to be the driver's side balljoint. My mechanic said this is very common for the W116, and W126 cars. Particularly in the spring. He said during the winter the road salt and sand work their way into the joint and start grinding away. Since I had that replaced, the front end is silent again and my steering is a little tighter. As I learned, the balljoints are generally not a DIYer. At least for the W116/W126 cars, it requires a special tool to pull out and to press in the new balljoint into the spindle.

Hey Tom.Check the idler arm bushing ,a very common groan i think as i have done quite a few of them lately

Tom, ..I agree with James, ...check the idler arm bushing. Leave the ball joint alone. don't even put any kind of grease or lubricant in it. Replace the bushing and you will be fine.
