rearend axle seal
hello, i have a 91 300sel 175000 miles and i was going to buy a new bmw but they cost so much money that i decided to work on the old benz instead.the car is in good shape and is the most comfortable car i have owned. so i have replaced timing chain, guides on chain and oil pump chain, water pump, radiator flush, new hoses, fixed dash lights, new stereo, new valve cover gasket, idler arm, motor mounts, trans mount, shocks, fuel pump & filter, trans filter, new brakes and rotors, all work done by me with the help of this forum so i have saved a ton of money and thank you guys alot.
now i need a new front flex joint ,and while car jacked up i saw axle leaking at rearend. is this a hard fix? can i get a rebuilt axle and where? or should i just keep it full of oil? any one changed or repaired the axle seal? need some input on this. thanks |
Axle shaft seal replacement are easy DIYer.
As long as the PINION seal isn't the problem..that requires measuring friction load & not increasing or decreasing that load. |
axle seal
so do the shafts come out as 1 piece , could someone give me a rough idea on how to get started and procedures on this project. also is there any additive to add to rear end to stop seal leak.
