Rain Water Leak Repair?

My 1982 280SL – 107 Body. Rain water getting into passenger compartment. I believe I have isolated it to coming through the screened under grill like area (air intake?), just below the windshield exterior on passenger side. When water hosing over there, with inspection panels under carpet inside passenger leg well open, I can see water coming in. (Although, I must say, I'm trhowing a lot of water on and it seems small compared to the amount of water I get in from rain).

How do I fix this? It seems the grill area is riveted and not easily accessed/removed. Is it a drainage tube or such inside or more likely a totally rusted out piece inside? Any other suggestions?

Check the rubber sealing around the windscreen and on the doors and fix it if found leaking. Water leaks can be very harmful as they increase moisture inside the car which would help in mold growth and damages seats and carpets.

The metal piece between the two trim pieces comes out with just a few screws. The area under those 'screens' can sure fill up with junk and rust out allowing water into the cabin.

I think those grills are secured by three fixings on each side and the chrome strip at the windscreen needs to be removed.
The area in this thread sounds similar, if you can access it.

WIS -- Workshop Information System. It's the factory tech info system. I'm not sure where to find it on the internet, but I'm sure its out there. Seems that everything is nowadays...
