m103 cooling question

i have a 93' 190E m103 2.6, i just flushed and changed the coolant not more than 3 months ago i used zerex g-05. The car get to operating temp 80C no problem...it stays at 80 most of the time when im driving it, maybe going 5C above or below..however when i am stuck in traffic or at a drive thru the engine likes to warm up to 100C..it doesnt get any hotter it just goes to 100C, as soon as im back on the road it drops to 80C relativly quickly...

is this normal or is somthing wrong here and if so, what can i check?

thanks

kris

It could be your fan clutch is not working properly and engaging the fan when it get hot. Or it might be the radiator. I had one clog up enough that it could not remove the heat from the coolant unless it was at high freeway speeds. Same symptoms as you describe.

100deg in heavy trafic is totally normal.
Don't loose any sleep about this and doN,t spend any money trying to fix a non-existant problem.. This is how the car has been designed.
I have the same 2.6 in my car, which acts exactly like your....been doing that since 1991 and 18K when I bought it.

I agree. Mine does the same. It never goes any higher, and it's never caused any problem. I've treated it as normal and that's worked just fine for me so far.

my 500sec had been doing that for a year or so. for some reason i decided it was a little low on coolant and added a quart or two and presto!

it was fixed.

i was thinking i needed a radiator soon!
