W124 Two windows go down, not up
I have a 1991 300d, the 2 windows passenger side windows go down, but not up. This happened separately, but happened to both within several weeks of each other. The rear window will go up using the button on its door. Both will go up when I lock the car with the key. I'm assuming it's the power window button at the console, but wanted to ask to see if there's anything else I should check for. All the fuses are new, changed a few months ago.
Thanks, Jeff |
Your trouble-shooting certainly points to the switches. You can simply replace them, or if you're so inclined... I cleaned my contacts, and tinned them with solder. They've been working flawlessly for well over a year.

That car has a convenience computer that operates the windows & sunroof.
Can you open & close the windows by holding the key to the lock & OR the unlock position? The computer in beneath the drivers side of the rear seat. |

Common complaint when the switches are down on the console where dirt and liquids can get on/in them. You can pull the center panel and switches and disassemble and clean, but I bet you can get them working again by hitting them with a contact cleaner like Caig DeOxit while still installed, and then actuating the switches like 50 times or so. If you disassemble the switches to clean, be careful to catch the little bb balls in there. Hint: Disassemble in a gallon-sized plastic bag! Gerry |
Just the switches, I'm sure
I replaced one switch with one I had around the house, and it's good to go. The other one, since I don't have one here to replace it with, I'll see if I can clean it.
