BAS Malfunction
I had a malfunction message on my W203 today that says ' BAS Visit Workshop ' while driving. However, there did not seem to be any difference in the car's performance and braking. After switching the car off and re-starting ( the Microsoft way! ), the malfunction turned off and did not reappear after driving.
As my next workshop service visit is not due for some months yet, is this something that I should worry about, or leave it till the next service? |
BAS is part of the traction system ESP.. allows full ABS action by quickly applying the brakes.
You should have the system scanned for codes. |
probably a brake light switch going out.
|
Agreed. Scanning tells all, but from my experience, the brake light switch will set off as many as three codes.
The switch was replaced on my W163 and W208 for the same issues. Both vehicles set off a BAS-type warning in different manners. |
Don't just shotgun the stop lamp switch in the case of 203 models. they dont go bad as often as ML's and 210's/208's, they're few and far between. its more likely to be the diaphragm travel sensor, one of the pressure sensors, steering angle sensor, high resistance in the wires at the esp module etc, point being, just have it scanned.

Thanks, all.
