99 E320 rebuilt maf sensor?

The 210 was diagnosed with a bad maf sensor. I was just at the local auto parts store for something else and asked if they could get one. They have a rebuilt maf sensor for $182 including a $30 core. Can this be ok?

Wont be a problem but you need to clear the codes in the M.E. .

My indy can do that, and will install parts I get from anyone. Just wondered about the rebuilt thing. I think the mb part is over $400.

I understand that you should make sure the unit is rebuilt with a Bosch sensor. Some people rebuild them with VW sensors and sell them cheaper.

You might call the people at Germanstar.net. They have very low prices on the sensor part only. Make sure to find out what you are getting though (rebuilt, off brand like Pierberg, etc.). Also, there are people selling supposedly genuing Bosch MAFs on ebay. Make sure to deal with someone reputable because there are some scammers passing off rebuilds as new.

Does Brinson sell the sensors calibrated for Mercedes around $100.00???

Would that be the air mass sensor insert? If so, it's 1/3 the cost of the whole unit. I see nothing substandard about going this route. After all, the housing isn't really a wear part.

oh - wouldn't it be nice if Phil started stocking those (hint).

Kestas - yes, the low price is just for the insert itself. You will need a saftey/security torx head (#20 I believe). Remember this is the type with the hollowed out center. Home Depot and Lowes don't carry these in my experience. Someone else recently said they got around this by trimming out the center of an appropriately sized small flatblade screwdriver.

I installed the new rebuilt unit on Saturday. I disconnected the battery before I did it. I have now driven 300 miles and it hasn't thrown a code yet.

I didn't take it to the shop to have the code reset, I just let the disconnected battery do it.
