broken monovalve coil
ok, so I was trying to remove the monovalve from its housing and went a little too far, now the coil is detatched from its little leads to the posts (cant find the point where they broke from the coil) and it is no longer attatched to the metal plate...And the metal housing that sits aournd the coil has detatched from the plate as well... (next time i wont try to drive it out with a hammer and vise:eek:
Can I fix this little mess or do I need a new housing unit. where can i look for such a piece? and how much. right now i re-installed the broken unit to keep driving without loosing coolant, but didn't attatch the electrical leads back up... That bugger was friggin stuck in there and all corroded too! But I was right in my diagnosis, the rubber diaphram was torn to shreds! thanks for whatever help you can offer. - Ben |

oh man. so im going to have to replace the entire valve? theres no reconnecting the wire? this was the costliest minor error ive yet made.
|
This is something you would get from a wrecker's yard, since a new "kit" gets it up to par with smaller effort/cost. Check here for example:

hmm. thats a good idea. my question is... how can i figure out if my car has a heated windshield or not. i know its a silly question to ask, but ive only had it for a little bit, and i cant tell!
|
There is a little, ~1/4" fitting at the bottom of the valve; for the extra hose (little) that goes to the windshield heater. Look carefully at the two pictures Hunter cited.

im driving an 82 300D. Put all the stuff back together as good I could then finished flushing the coolant system. Now I get lots of heat, so mybe the thing defaults to open? Dont know. Where should i look for replacement units? (prefeably cheap/used)?
- Ben |
Yes, the default is open, exactly right. MB designed it this way so if something fails you will have heat, in case the defroster is needed to clear the windshield.
