mercedes black box
 

what does the black box on the mercedes record or does it only record when the airbag is deployed. can you guys give me a good info on what that thing do and record and how the functions are

its a c230 2005

No seperate recorder I am aware of, are you DOC? Info preceding a crash would typically be found in the airbag control unit, and if you have teleaid there might be some in there, but not mormally retreivable in both cases except by MB itself, or in the case of Teleaid by the Response Center. Am guessing might give about 10 seconds preceding an airbag deploy.

if the airbag didnt deploy it doesnt record anything

In my opinion, this would be corrrect, or if there is any true "flight recorder" info on it, it would I believe only be accessable by MB itself (special access with an MB computer, not what they have at the dealerships, more like a Tech Rep or Field Rep, say in the case of a lawsuit against MB they would get permission from a court of law to access this data).
