I found & read your previous thread, 86560SEL, and you're having the exact same problem. I checked with my local mechanic and he wants big $$ to replace the steering box (won't even discuss replacing the seal). So I'm going to try to do it myself. You mentioned a "Seal Puller" in your list of tools, dkveuro. I don't know what that is. Are the seals so tightly pressed in that I'd need a special tool to remove & replace them? Maybe this job is too big for a beginner DIYer like myself?

I have a seal puller, you can do it with a 1/8th drill and a tin screw.
Drill 1/8th hole through seal metal collar...install screw in hole...prise seal from housing with pliers on screw head.
If you take the whole box apart you can replace seals without this step.

I'll give your "drill & screw" idea a try when I get the box out. So far I've been able to disconnect the Pittman arm (no puller needed), the hose connectors & the 3 bolts holding the steering box to the frame. But the 6 mm allen screw connecting the steering coupler simply will not budge! I replaced the frame bolts for leverage and soaked it in "Liquid Wrench". Very frustrating, but I'm tenacious. I'll keep at it 'til it gives.
