Code Reader
I believe that your S600 is OBDI - The second one will work - Before you buy, goto http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_S500.html/ - outstanding site for this and other topics.

You should have the LED/sw combo (X11/21) already near the F23 module box. Check the picture in my pages in MENU#2 that shows a capped pushbutton (pb) and LED. The LED flashes, you count the blinks and look up the "blinks" meaning in a DTC book.
Following the method described in MENU#2 will get the stored codes in the Diag Module (Menu#6). The scanners described in your link are for "OBDII" compatible Mercedes from 1996 and on. The second link you posted is basically what you already have (pb+LED), assuming that it is there. If you don't have a pb+LED, you may want one of the Alpha-bid scanners. The "mercedes" compatible version is in the link below but it's still for OBDII models. You also would need the "OBDII-to-38-pin" cable. It implies that it will give 'blink' codes if your car isn't OBDII compatible, so it basically turns into a "pb+LED" combo. However it may NOT?? Not enough info to say for sure. You can't get all of the codes from the OBDII port on a '96+ Mercedes. I'm not sure about that adapter cable, but since it plugs into that scanner, it probably also can't get all of the codes.

Did you check to see if you have a "X11/21 LED+sw combo" in your car?? You should do that first. If it's there, then you can get codes from the Diag Module . . . and that's a start.
Certainly you can make one yourself or get one from the 'e-bay' link; that's basically what the LED+sw combo is except that you can get codes from all of the populated pins in the 38 pin connector. |

That second link you posted is my auction and it will give you the blink codes (and descriptions) for all of the systems on the 38 pin module (as pictured in the auction).
From the description: 1992 - 1995 - w140 - 600SEL, S600 - Fuel Injection (LH-SFI), Ignition System, Electronic Accelerator, Cruise Control/Idle Speed Control, Base Module, Diagnostic Module - Check Engine Light, SRS - Airbag, ADS, Climate Control Like Jim mentioned it is just an extension of the led/sw that is possibly built into the diagnostic module. I believe that this switch only allows you to read codes from the diagnostic module (pin 19). If you have other questions I'd be happy to try to answer them.
