Core Plug Leak
 

92' 300E - M103

Seems that I have coolant leaking from a core plug beneath the intake manifold. Coolant (no oil) is puddling on the shoulder of the engine block just below the plug opening. Source stain seems to be from the bottom of the plug. (see photo)

Checked hoses and claps (dry). Core plug renewal seems straight forward. Tap one side to rotate - pry out - clean/degrease opening - sealant and tap in new. Access seems to be the problem.

Question -

1) Do I have to remove the Intake manifold to gain access to the core plugs on this side?

2) Do I have to disconnect mixture control unit to remove the manifold?

3) Will a cheap and dirty fix work by just degreasing the outside surface and using sealant on the exterior? ( I already know the answer is no but a guy can dream)

4) Is there a simpler way in from the bottom side to get to this little bugger?

5) If I do have to disconnect the mixture control is it simply a unbolt/rebolt process or am I looking at a re-calibration or re-adjustment. Hope not. It would be over my head.

I have found over the years that "DO it once corectly" is the best way to go.

Remove the complete intake manifold & replace as required.
