Belt Question- M117
On my 560, the belts have gone far past the factory recommended replacement mileage. Is it very hard to replace all of the V-Belts, and where are the tensioning points on these belts?
Thanks and God Bless, Dave. |
it is not too hard.
there is adjustment available at the alternator, ac compressor and power steering pump, i believe. on the first is should be pretty evident how to do it. the other two are more subtle and a look at a service manual may be necessary to discover the method. good luck tom w |
It is sort of difficult, you can't replace them all unless you remove the water pump pulley, which means that you have to loosen/remove the fan shroud, fan, and fan clutch. I'd recommend a manual to find the adjustment points and the proper tension figures. Unless you are a mechanic for a living some of the adjustments are not obvious. Too much tension (figures are different for new vs used belts) will dramatically shorten the lives of alternator/water pump/power steering pump bearings (expensive).
