Anybody have the tools to rent for this project? Another member gave his to an MB tech.

if not.... do you know where to get the cylinder whistle?

I think i need one of those things to alleviate my fears of dropping a valve.

Hey Lee
The way I did mine, was to only remove the rockers arms from the cylinder you are working on. You can see from the camshaft postion whether you are at TDC on compression. (i.e. both lobes facing down) So I don't think a whistle is necessary.
You can also see the piston with a torch to confirm it's at TDC.
btw Mine went from using almost 1 litre of oil per 1000km to using maybe 1-200ml between changes (5000km) :D
Hope you have similar results....................

Lee,
I got the whistle at the hardware store and used air line couplers, some brass pipe and tubing to connect it to a threaded 14 mm fitting that screwed into the spark plug hole.

I have a photo of it somewhere, I'll see if I can find it.

tool

You could go to any parts store like auto zone the have a tool rental
program or you could buy a compression tester from harbor freight, sears,
pep boy etc. and just use the hose from that and connect it to a compressor

I think the TDC whistle is still available from Performance Products.
Thanks, and God Bless,
Dave.
