1993 500sel - Cylinder Won't Turn
God Help Me! After Reading Through The Threads Posted For Other Models I Feel Like I Just Read A Horror Novel. My Ordeal Started Today. I Put The Key In Ignition And I Felt Like The Key Was Being Held. Wouldn't Turn At All, Then Grabbed Then Wouldn't Turn Loose. I Have Been Told By A Locksmith He Could Replace The Cylinder But Would Charge More Than A Benz Place. Can I (not Me Personally, But The X) Purchase A New Cylinder Switch And Replace It? Do I Need A Special Tool? Does Anyone Have A Diagram And/or Instructions? The Ex Says He Might Be Able To Do It For Me If I Could Get Him Some Instructions. (i Can't Sell My First Born For Repairing It, He's Grown And Knows Too Much! Laffs...) I Would Appreciate Any Help. (i'm Stranded)
Thanks! |

I would imagine you would have to do it at an MB dealer if you want to use the same keys you have. Had the tumbler replaced in a W201 (190D) that cost about $600 CAD. For security reasons, you may have to prove a match between your ownership papers and the vehicle's VIN. Don't know if they would sell a new tumbler to you over the counter without proof of ownership. Good luck!

I would let MB do it, there was a running change to the lock in 92/93. If it still turns dont mess with it otherwise it is big time.
