1992 Coupe 300 CE Cruise Control Problems

My cruise control has stopped working. Rather than immediately replacing it, is their something else I can check beyond the fuse? Perhaps a circuit I can test?

Is replacing it a big project for a mediocre mechanic?

300Ce Cruise control

The one on my CE is on and then off...I have not worked on it but remember a advice you can fine by doing a search on the forum...type in 300CE cruise control. It suggests removing the unit which is located behind the drivers side kick panel and then resoldering the conections.
