Ok I just checked 3 sites and nothing came up except for 1 car out of those 3 sites. Are you sure your not confusing this with the s500?

Heres my results

1992-1993 sel 600 mercedes

0 on autotrader

0 on ebaymotors

1 on craigslist

So howcome I only get 1 find in a nationwide search on those 3 major sites, when it sounds like you guys tell me there common?

Can anyone tell me? whats going wrong with my search? It seems like Im doing something wrong, or people that are telling me I can find them are wrong?

I am quite sure that you could figure it out yourself in less time than it took you to ask the question.

WHen you say there horrible on resale. What would you say a very good + s600, low miles would go for? I bought it for 10,000 and my mechanic and a few other people think I got a steal. But I cant seem to find a definite answer or for that matter find out what there going for since I cant find any.

Why do you keep asking the same question? It is only worth as much as some one wants to pay for one, in your case... $10,000. Would I have paid $10k for a 1992 600SEL with 140k? No. That's not that low of mileage. 40-65k is low mileage to me. There are many sub 100K cars around.

The W140 has awful resale, look at the MSRP versus what you can purchase them for now...

If it is trouble free for the $10k, be happy. I hope you received service history with the purchase or you really paid too much. It's pretty common knowledge the early 140s were very spendy to deal with. The '97-99 are the best if you want to own one, obviously more expensive as fewer were made and all the bugs are pretty much gone in them.

S600s started in 1994, YOU HAVE a 600SEL.

I'd pay $20k tops for a super mint low mileage 1999. Any more and I'd go W220 shopping.

$10k-$15k will do good examples.

$10k and under for dogs.

I wouldn't buy a W140 made before 1997. I want the 722.6 trans and all the updates. If I ever go W140 I think a 1999 S320 or a 1999 S500 Grand Edition would be what I would hunt for.

A 92 600SEL with 140K in perfect condition is worth about 8K or 9K to me, but it better be in PERFECT condition. If it's not, then deduct accordingly for needed repairs. Realistically I would pay about 6k or 7K for one in average condition with a few minor issues. The main reason is that the car will be a money pit, so better to pay as little as possible up front. Or better yet, skip it and go for a 500SEL or S500 for just a little more. Parts and knowledge are abundant for those since they are not so rare.

This one appears to be in fairly good condition and only went for $8,000, and it's a lot newer (1995) with far less miles (100K). This is the way an S600 should be purchased. Do a local inspection, then bid away.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But hit man x and hatty was saying that the resale value of the W140's arent great?

Well from everyone ive talked to $8K for my S420 was a steal. I had looked up the blue book value of my S420 (which i near mint condition with the exception of a few door dings) here was the value with 144K miles (thats how much it had when i bought it, it now has 148K and its only been a month! )

Retail: $14,300

private: $11,535

trade in: $8,925

So i got it below the trade in price, that sounds like a steal and i could turn around and sell it for $10K if i wanted too....of course i wont because i love the car

EDIT: by the way ive seen more S600's and 600SEL's then i have a 300SDL's. Actually i know of 2 guys around my house that have S600's. But i always see them parked in the same spot when i drive by their houses....cant be cheap to drive them everyday i suppose.

Yea thats waht I was saying to. Im not sure and not trying to disrespect anyone but I'm thinking its more of their opinion then anything factual. Because not only did I look on the nada guides but the all mercedes shop that I take my car to said that I got a steal for 10,000 bucks for my 92 sel 600. They said if I paid 15,000 for it I would of got a steal.

They have over 60 yrs. over experience between the 3 of them their. So I kind of take the previous posters responses with a grain of salt.

Oh and by the way I seen a few sel 600's but show me on the net or anywhere you can provide a link to of a 92 sel 600. There almost impossible to find info a bout.

http://v12uberalles.com/

Site has great info on the common W140 troubles, plus repairs and tips on the V12 engine.

By the way i think you got a steal on your 600SEL. Its a very nice car and the upgrades done to it by the previous owner make it all the more better. Gas mileage must be a pain though!

Yea the gas mileage is horrible. It's not so bad now because I live in sf and I dont drive it as much, I usually only drive it on longer freeway trips. But I definitely see the gas being sucked out of the tank
