i just got my grandmas old mercedes. i know she bought it in europe and that its a 250. i think its a 1973. if i got the vin number, could someone tell me everything that it means?

here is the number i found on a metal tag near the driver's side of the windshield...

114.011-12-014578

The 114 is the chassis number, which is the body type. The .011 notes which version of the 114 chassis, ie: 250. I believe the 12 means it's an automatic. The last 6 numbers are the car's serial number that only that exact car has. It's basicly a production number. Hope this helps.

That pretty much covers it, except for a couple of nice hidden bonus's.
The 114.011 is the 250/8 USA series. Very nice in the sense that the /8 were the the later seies and had the 130-2.8 engine. 7/69-8/72. 16.830 produced.
I bought one of these in '71 and it was the best Benz
I ever owned.

Nice sled Arthur.

And the 12 in the middle of the VIN tells us it is and automatic transmission(1), left hand drive(2).

The first one is a nice sled
 
But the "summer" sled is SWEET.
