REST Function
Is there any way to disable the REST function on the climate control?
Rest comes on all the time when engine is off and drains the battery. The only way I can stop this is to remove fuse #4 from under the hood. I have read that I need a new climate control unit. 1996 E320 |

I'd check that the button is working correctly first (might have been knocked).

When I push the REST button the red light goes on, push it again it goes off.
I made sure the REST button is off before turning the car off. When the car is not running the climate control lights up and shows the temperature on both sides with the rest button light on and heat comes in threw the vents, when I press the rest button it shuts off,but in a few seconds the rest comes back on and you can hear the clicking under the dash. |

If I remember the manual correctly it should turn itself off after 20 minutes of use if operating correctly so doesnt drain the battery.

REST monitors engine coolant temperature, it is not a timed function. If coolant drops below a certain temp, it is considered too cold to keep occupants warm, and REST shuts off. I think a friend of mine had a similar problem. It was either a battery with low charge, or his Climate Control unit needed a software upgrade. I'll contact him and ask for details.

The REST function keeps functioning on and off till the battery is completley drained,I have replaced with a new battery.
The only problem I find with pulling the fuse is the instrument lights and guages are on the same fuse as the REST. I have to put the fuse back in before driving and also when I shut the car off. |

Use the info in this link to see what fault codes may be stored...
http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione/MB_AAC.html Also, per a friend who had this problem..."The document number for the climate control module in WIS is AF 83.40-P-6001 DA, you will notice that the required code Q 62 is the defective software produced by MB. In this case a new part number with the code other than Q62 should be installed" Hope this helps.
