"Alldata" - Is it worth purchasing?
 

Opinions please:

Is the information available at “alldata” (specifically, “alldatadiy.com”) exceptionally comprehensive? Or is it simply a re-hash of the MBZ service CD’s? Do you feel it would be worthwhile to pay for a subscription?

I didn't like it. It has lots of stuff, service bulletins, labor hours, etc., most of which I didn't see as having much value. But it is considerably less, at least for my 400E, than the MB CD. There are many many repairs jobs simply not covered. I signed up for 3 years, cancelled in about 16 hours, and to their credit they agreed to refund the money.

The service CD (aka WIS) is way much better. Alldata lacks stuff, is often not model-specific, procedures are not well explained etc.
If there was not alternative it might be useful.

I can tell you for the C230 it is lousy. I had it for a year and did not renew. It should be called "some data". It lacks many procedures and also has some just plain wrong information. For example the diagram of the drivers seat was totally wrong, from another car. It is about as bad as a Chilton manual. Lots of missing info. I had sent them one e-mail asking for information on changing the trans fluid since nothing was provided. They never replied. I have heard that for some other models it is better.

Thanks everyone - the consensus is obvious; I'll save my $25...

I have it for several vehicles and I think it's quite helpful.

I replaced blend air motor on 1999 ML 320 after reading the relevant sections that relate to dash removal.

Adequate, but hardly worth it
 

I think it's $15 though.

The recalls are about the only really good value for it.

Note: Alldata was excellent for the Ford Windstar we kept alive for 8 years, and which is now roviding reliable transport to a happy family of (illegal?) immigrants.

I've had it for my four different cars (see signature below). There was not too much extra for the Mercedes, for which I already have the CD set, Vol I and II of the 126 Chassis and Body, and the 617.95 manuals. If you don't have those then it is probably worth it. I have the Bentley VW manual it appears to cover everything on Alldata. The Dodge only had a couple of things the Shop Manual didn't have. The Saab has been very helpful because I have had a very hard time finding a shop manual anywhere (I won't use the illegally copied CD's off E-Bay). The Saab is also more important to me now that the warranty has expired - just in time for the front left wheel bearing to fail!. BTW - this is post 600 for me!
