Climate Control Display – 1999 E300

Well, if it is not one thing it is another with this piece of @!$#%@$#% it is another.
Now the illumination (i.e. back lighting) on the climate control display does not work when the lights are on. I suppose this means that I need replace the climate control unit at a price that will probably be $3,000.

Another option is to check around for a rebuilt climate control unit. It would be cheaper if you don't mind a rebuilt one.

I have problem on my CC unit. The dealer would charge me more than $2k to replace a new OE CC unit. I have lived with the problem for a very long time. Finally, I decided to tackle the problem after knowing how to remove the unit.

Last week, I bought a rebuilt CC unit on-line. It costs only 1/4 of the dealer and is on its way. I will update you after the installation.

Here is the part that kills me. This did not happen until I replaced the battery. Seems to me the cars self destroy when you change the battery.

Back lighting is done by a replacable bulb..takes less than 5 minutes & bulb is less than $2.

Do you have to remove the CC unit in order to replace the light bulk? It's pain to remove the CC unit. Thanks.

You may get lucky and find that just disconnecting and re-connecting the connection may get your light back.

I hope that a burnt bulb is the problem. With this car's reputation I tend to expect the worst case scenario.

I do have the keys to pull the CC unit. I might have a chance tonight to try to pull it.

Get this I put the keys in the CC unit, pulled it from the dash, turned the lights on the the CC display lit. Nice quality.

Failed bulbs will often work again after jetting a mechanical jolt. This can let a free-swinging filament touch metal and weld into place. Of course the effect is quite temporary.

You still replaced the bulb, right?

We're rooting for ya!
