Scan tool...???
I am looking for a scan tool. I guess what I'm asking for is the basics. All I know is what OBD/OBD II is. What is protocol?
I want to be able to do the basic diagnostic. This is for entry level/home shop. Is there such a scan tool that handles both OBD I and II? |
Here is a very low cost OBD II scanner
Item Number: OBD2QS
Main Category: TOOL Sub Category: Description: OBDII Reader Manufacturer: BAUM http://catalog.peachparts.com/item.wws?qty=1&mfr=BAUM&sku=OBD2QS&price=39.00&cookieID=20900B2DI20900BQDX Have a great day. |
There are any number of products on the market at all levels. If you want a handheld unit, the Baum might be one of the few choices that will do both. Companies like EASE diagnostics sell cables and software to be used with a handheld or laptop computer that can do both.
To me, on OBDI cars a scanner is almost always unnecessary. Depending on the vehicle, you can draw a code with something as simple as a paperclip to short a few pins on the connector under the dash, turn on the key and observe the flashing codes of the Check Engine light. Most any OBDI car has a simple way to draw the code if you will do just a little research. |
