1997 E420 (M119) power steering pump leak

I am having a leak coming from somewhere behind the power steering pump. Any clues or advice? I researched the website and do not know if there is a way to remove the reservoir to the pump to see what is going on....

The reservoir is removable..but no spart parts available for that pump..

Must be replaced as an assembly.

Would you mind telling me how to remove the reservoir? I would like to clean things up and try to pinpoint the leak source....

Is it common for these pumps (used on 1997 E420, 1996-97 S420, S500) to develop a leak such that you have to replace the whole assembly? Or is a leak usually caused by an o-ring. I see that there is an o-ring to the reservoir sold in the parts shop.

I know the dealer here swaps out the internals of the pumps and that seems to work quite well. Also, you'll need to replace the hose to the reservoir.

I see in the shop section that there is a rebuild kit to replace the seals. Is that hard to do??

its easy to rebuild the pump, buy the repair kit either original part or OEM, won't matter, but you have to be knowledgeable in order to be able to replace the new parts the right way otherwise, you get a bad result, the leak on the top neck portion is due to the o ring (which may be the culprit) .

The short hose under the reservoir is a common leak point. rule that out first.

it is most likely the infamous hose. the pump itself is not too bad to rebuilt, but the hose is easier to change out.
