OVP relay fried ???
Hi,
I pulled my OVP relay from my 93 190e-auto (2.3 4cyl -153 k) to check the fuse on it. It had a single fuse with 7 pins and the fuse looked good. The date of manufacture on the relay was 1/4/93. Anyways, i put the relay back on and the car won't start anymore. Should I get a new OVP ???? Thanks smk_texas 93 190e 98 s420 |
Ovp???
If it was starting before the OVP sounds like the No-Start culprit. Are you sure the pins were clean and securely plugged back in? You might alson check the fuse box for a failed fuse (I think it might be #7). The fuses corrode and get hairline cracks frequently: look O. K. but won't conduct.
Why were you checking the OVP anyway? Al |
if you have random stalling and random hard-starts try a new OVP....
It's just dodgy like that - one moment all is well another moment nothing works... |
I did have cold start issues. Usually started 2nd or 3rd try by holding the accel pedal down slightly. So i decided to pull the OVP and check the fuse. The fuse and the pins (7) looked fine. I put it back ....from what I can tell it is securely plugged in. All the fuses look good. I went ahead and ordered a new OVP. Should get it in by Thursday and I'' plug that in and see what happens. Thanks for the responses.

Check your OVP for the known bad part number, 000-540-52-45. It'll also say "Made in Austria" on it. If that is the part number on your OVP, get the new updated OVP - replacement number 000-540-67-45.

Different OVP for that chassis.
The 000-540-67-45 are OVP #'s for HFM/SFI IL-6. |
yes my OVP looked perfectly fine when I pulled it too....turns out it's faulty anyway. good luck. |
Thanks for the reponses Guys. I'll keep yall posted.

Ok. I installed the new OVP and the car still wouldn't start and the battery began to die. I put in a new battery and still no success. A friend suggested testing the ignition coil and sure enough the spark was weak. Installed a new coil last night and the car started up first try. Thanks for all the help. Wonderful forum...saved me a lot of bucks.

Haven't heard about faulty coil before I had like 20+ year old cars at home with original coils and running around starting on first try....Mind you the car in question is a Toyota. :silly: care to post a pic of maybe the coil opened up?? Sorry the OVP didn't help - hope you didn't change out a German unit, though. If it's Austrian unit then you just bought extra peace of mind.... I suppose? :scholar: |
Hi , The one i removed (7pin) was a german unit and the new one i installed (10 pin) is also a german unit. But, I have another problem after I installed the new OVP.....the ABS light is on. The cars starts ...takes atleast 2 tries. I don't know what the heck is goin on now. Any suggestions ???
