I'm in Houston and I saw that. The car looks good, but take your time. The one thing that's screwed up with it is the most important - the engine.

I'd take it for $1,000 IF (and only if) the headgasket was the only problem and if it can be ascertained with certainty that the gasket is in fact the cause of the oil/coolant mix. Other things can cause that, such as a cracked engine block.

That seems like a great price, especially if you can confirm that the only engine problem is the head gasket.

Our '91 is identical to that car and I would not part with it for a price anything like $1500!

M3, have a PPI done by a MB-trained tech so you know what you're getting. If you're able to change the head gasket yourself you'll save some money. Otherwise, you'll be spending another $2,000 immediately ... and counting from there.

Keep in mind sometimes things like electrical harnesses, hoses, brittle vacuum lines, etc. get broken in the process of removing the head. A simple head gasket job can spiral out of control if you're not careful...

Pay a couple hundred $$$ for a PPI from a dealer or reputable indy. If they can confirm that the headgasket is the only issue, it would be worth a grand, maybe more.

$200 is too much for a PPI from an indy. A good indy can do it for half that.
Especially is you are directing what you want checked out.
