I recently changed my head gasket on my 300SL. I had I proffesional do it. It was about two months ago. Yesterday my oil lamp lit up and I could fill up with 2 litres of oil before the level was ok. Is this something that happens after a head gasket change or should I be concerned?? I will ofcourse monitor the oil level for some time now to see that it isn't going low again.
Does anyone have any comments on this?? Thanks!

Are you sure it was filled to the correct level when you got the head gasket changed? Notice any oil leaks?

Well, , I didn't check the level after the gasket change so it's possible he made a mistake. The mechanic told me to come back to him after 1000km to to draw the screws again to get the right moment. Then he said it looked good. He noticed a little oil leak from the first part of the exhaust (that is attached to the motor - Sorry for my bad parts discription. It's kind of hard in english). He redrew that bolts too and said that it was ok. I can't see any obvious oil leak either.

Emil,
Did you have the valve seals replaced at the same time? We had a 1986 300SL that was consuming pretty much oil because of hardened (& leaking) valve seals... It is not normal for the car to use motoroil after the head gasket is replaced. greetingz,
