How To Check If Coil Is Good?

TIA

Looking to find out how to check the coils (2 on a '93 500 SEL) are good, since the engine bay is open may as well check.

Not sure if there is a check while MB is not running.

Prior History of the MB-MB sluggish, poor take off, poor trans shifting etc...

Replaced Plugs, Caps, Rotors, MAF (Thanks WHunter ), cleaned EGR port and tube, plug wires were tested passes ohm's test (good, visually they look good as well, no crackes etc...), cleaned internal ETA? (Throttle Body under MAF), air filters are new, complete engine harnesses are new from PO , new battery

After the coils are checked will pull the codes again KOEO.

After pulling the codes should the codes be erased one at a time prior to starting the engine? If the codes are not erased prior to engine running, will the saved engine codes effect how the engine runs with said above newly installed parts?
