92 400E Nissens radiator help
Previous owner of my 1992 400E replaced the Behr radiator w/ a Nissens radiator.
While changing the connecting hose from the top of the radiator to the expansion tank the other day, that 90 degree plastic fitting on top of the radiator broke off. Picked up the replacement piece for $3 but this piece seems only to fit the Behr (OEM) radiator. It is just barely different, but it seems to be different enough that it leaks when I put it into the Nissens radiator. I have not been able to find the replacement fitting for a Nissens radiator. Anyone have any ideas? I just refuse to buy a whole new radiator on account of a $3 part - that is just ridiculous. Any ideas? I need this little elbow piece, whether new or if someone has an old Nissens radiator laying around. Help! |

Possible I suppose, but hard to believe, are you sure it isn't just missing a seal? Also, are you sure you got all of the old one out? Sometimes you have to remove the upper hose and clean it out from below.

Removed the upper hose in order to remove the piece broken off in there. That was the easy part.
As I'm looking at the Behr replacement fitting, the groove for the O-ring is just a bit narrower than the groove is on the broken fitting. I have the old larger O-ring, maybe I can squeeze it on there? The O-ring that comes with the Behr fitting is much thinner than the one that is on the Nissens piece. |
