W201 funky turn signal/hazard intermittent short.

Ok guys, first post here. I'm Sam, I work at a euro shop in NC, and I just picked up a '93 190e 8v.

Car has an intermittent electrical issue. When you turn the key on, the left turn signals light up and stay lit, no plinking. Right turns work as intended, and left turn command does nothing. Hazard also does nothing, with the key on. I swapped turn signal relays, swapped front bulb sockets, and swapped bulbs. No dice.

Key off, the hazard switch makes the entire vehicle power on and off in turn signal intervals, like you are cycling the key. Haven't dropped the knee bolster yet, i'm bringing the meter home this weekend and will start dissecting this car.

Any ideas? Anyone ever faced this problem before? I haven't, not yet at work. I know the original owner accidentally hooked the bracket ground for his coil to the coil positive and attempted to crank it like that when changing the coil. He stopped when he saw the insulate on the power wire start smoking. Haven't traced that back yet, but I think that's where I'll start.

Thanks so much!

Just for effect, I would try swapping the hazard flasher toggle switch with a known good working one.
