tranny question
hey forum, i searched the forum for a sympton of tranny wont shift from first gear on a 1986 300e car and drew blanks,so can anyone offer any suggestions to the most probable causes?? i was looking at the car to purchase so didnt have many tools but did look to see that the vac line was connected to the modulator and the thing would shift from first to reverse dood so i figured the linkage had to be right.also engine didnt smoke at all and tanny was overfilled about 1/2 inch above full when cold(55 deg f)
thanks for the input larry perkins, lou ky |

Hi larry,
I've moved this thread to Tech Help - you might get more answers there! Good luck with the tranny! I never had any issues with my 300E, so can't offer much. C. |
trans problem
did you try to shift from low to drive manually and check the bowden cable sorry can't offer much more help

Have you checked the kickdown switch under the gas pedal? stuck on?
For the trans to shift the governor must create pressure...sounds like that could also be the problem. |
mb doc
doc, i really went un-prepared fot troubleshooting, seller said car shifted good,on test drive i found problem,he did look supprised. its hard to believe most sellers but he claimed it was ok the last time driven. fluid was blood red so i suspect it was changed to try to solve problem.
on the kick down sw i did activate sw with pedal while engine was off, could hear click but failed to take my meter for an ohm check,i did take it to 5k rpm and still no shift. i have never tried but would think that the tranny is designed to shift from first at full throttle. i did try to manually shift and got same results.i could see the bowen cable and it did look to be correct(connected) thanks for the time larry perkins |
