If you're gonna "try" something, don't start with the most expensive part!!! Why don't you take a look at the inside of the distributor cap? It only takes a few minutes. Maybe you'll find the rotor, or the coil terminal burned up.

Car Stat: 1987 260E with 137500 miles. 2.6L V6
Well today I proceed to replace the Distributor cap and Rotor with brand new ones (bosche distrib cap, and becker/arnley rotors), that was a 3 hour job for a novice like me, muscle pain all over.
However the car still wouldnt' start. It will crank and crank, I tried cranking it for almost a minute non-stop, but still won't start. I hope I didn't wreck the starter motor.
I also have on hand a brand new ignition coil which I think I could try, however the mechanic shop just replaced the ignition coil a month or so ago, Jan2007 or maybe Dec2006. I had exactly the same starting problem when I took it in the mechanic shop, when I picked it up the mechanic says he replaced the ignition coil so I happily paid and drove off. Could it the ignition coil fail again already?
I want to just bite the bullet and take it to the mechanic shop, however, the car isn't starting so I can't drive it out. Last time I did a tow the trucker charged me $260CAD to tow a mere 9 kilometer (Hook up charge alone was $60, i.e. put their truck tow thing to my car). They just love us Mercedes owners, "hey look, lets rip him off, he is a snotty mercedes owner"
Anyone else had similar problem? What did u do to start the car? I am all EARS...
