Head Gasket Repair

I am planning to replace the head gasket on me 300E with the 104 motor. If I remove the exhaust and intake manifolds would I be able to lift out the head by myself? What does the head weigh? I have thought about buying a engine hoist from Harbor freight but that seems a little much for one job. I am sure I may use it for something else, but....Thanks.

It is doable to lift it out manually but a lift sure does make it alot easier.

ON the 104 engine like yours it seems to be easier to leave the manifolds in place on the head. It's a tougher lifting job, but makes disassembly/reassembly easier. The 103 engine is the opposite IMHO.

Do you have something you hang a chainfall from? Do you have a healthy neighbor?

Good luck,
