No avoiding it any longer - the 300E needs a rear muffler. What was once a nice sort of growl has become a plain old annoying noise. I plan to go through Partsshop on this and they list the following:
Eberspaecher $175.89 Bosal $222.14 Ansa $182.37 Are there any recommendations? I would like it to be quiet, not hurt performance, and look stock. In this range price is not an issue. TIA |
Go with the Eberspaecher it is original equipment for MB and also seems to be the less expensive

Eberspeacher...even in Europe!
Like the partdr said: it is original equipment factory-mounted by MB. greetingz, |
Success!
Just to close the loop. Bought the rear muffler by Eberspaecher from Fastlane. Delivered on-time for twelve bucks, installed with no hassles, fits perfectly, sounds fine. Highly recommend it for someone needing a stock replacement.
BTW - The muffler was OK. The noise was coming from a hole on the top side of the pipe at the bend just before it enters the muffler. Is this a common failure? Chuck |
