I noticed yesterday that although still in place and w/good rubber, the left front motor shock absorber on my '88 420 SEL has a broken (split) top metal mount ring. This appears to be a stamped piece. I took a small wrench, and notice that I can easilt turn the bottom nut on the lowere part of the shock assembly.
How much labor is involved in replacing this upper ount for the shock, and is it necessary? |

this is a simple DIY job. replace the broken metal piece, that's the one that secure the rubber mount and make sure that it is tightened properly in order for the shocks to function eficiently. Maybe, you can do it it ten minutes or leass.....

engine shock mount
Thanks, Rudy. Two followups:
1. Can you tell me what part number this is, or the proper description? 2. What do I need to remove to get off the stamped upper mounting? Thanks. Bob Boyer. '88 420 SEL: almost running like honey... |

robert, ..this is a part of the shock absorber. It goes with it when you buy one. There's always two nut that secures it. You may need two wrenches to remove and install it. Make sure that the absorber's shaft does not rotate when you do this........

Rudy-
Thanks again. I appreciate your description of the part. Obviously, it is a composite piece. |
