power steering pressure hose wet
My car is 1992 300D.
The power steering pressure hose becomes wet. It is dry around the clamp. The hose itself becomes wet: the yellow indicated area in the picture becomes wet first. Do I need to replace it? With my limited tools, I am unable to use torque wrench for the hose (I do not have the open end socket to use with my torque wrench, the space at the steering gear box side may not be enough to use my torque wrench, . . . ), but what is the correct torque?

This was just discussed on the Ritter list. You might want to join that list and do an archive search. The guy that went through it had major problems sourcing the hose, $$, and doing the R&R. Difficult.
List is at www.mercedeslist.com Steve |

I would be very surprised if you can't simply remove the hose and take it to a local hydraulic hose shop for rubber replacement. There is no need to buy the expen$ive completely made up hose from an MB parts supplier.
Good luck, |

You got it, the hose for my SDL is well over $100... it can be rebuilt for about 1/4 of that.

I'll make a comment.
Are you talking the high pressure hose or the return line???? THe return line you can buy a meter of hydraulic line from even the dealership(stock item about $15). loosen hose clamps and R&R just like a radiator hose. Don't use raidator hose as it won't hold up to the hydraulic fluid. MB line is a bit bigger than most American stuff, so make sure you have a piece if hunting at a hydraulic shop.Expect the hose to cost $2-5/ft. For the high pressure line it is crimped on. All hydraulic shops can reuse your old fittings and replace the hose. Never done a power steering hose as it's ussually the return line that leaks or weeps. But they've done many a/c lines for me. Some prefer to weld on new end-fittings as they can assure a better clamp up in the crimp as all parts are spec'd together. Others will carefully cut the old crimp, and strip the hose. Michael

Before doing all of the above, make sure all connections are tight.
As far as tools, look at it as an investment you can use over and over again.
