2002 c240 electrical problem- seats

I have a 2002 C240, battery died a few weeks ago, road side assistance replaced battery at my house (that was convenient). Several days later car alarm went off at 2am, new battery died.
Put it in the Mercedes shop- Electrical system problems ....they had to replace the passanger side seat control module due to failure and also drivers side power seat motor because it failed and were draining the battery. Almost $1000 to fix and no warranty. Web searches seem to indicate that this is a common problem. Why did this passanger side seat control module fail, Mercedes said "just failed, no reason" "not due to over use or anything"...
Are you aware of any recalls or Technical Service Bulletins on this problem? Should they have covered this or a portion of it? $1000 is a lot of cash to replace some seat electronics- how much for new- non-power bucket seats??? I can't imagine what a motor/ ignition related electrical problem would cost!
Other than front end work, car has been OK. But now worried about other major work that could pop up since warranty is long gone.
