Angry warm eng.start problem

just-n-time here,Gets frustrating, just finished rebuilding the intake and resetting the EHA,and replaced the potentiometer, set all the components to proper specs. Now the car is not restarting after warm, and has set for 20 or 30 min. So lets go down the list of probable causes. One, leaking injector. two the cold start injector, leaking. Three, Fuel regulator. If I missed some please let me know. Once you start the Eng. it shutters as if flooded, and you can smell a rich condition, its rough running until the fuel clears out.I do not know the procedure for testing the injectors can some one tell me how to do this in my own shop? Thanks JNT.

Could also be a leaking fuel distributor, a fuel pump check valve, or a fuel accumulator. Usually, a fuel distributor it will get worse with time, and the car will begin to run rough and belch out white smoke.

Might be a little more difficult to test the injectors without the Bosch hand tester and CIS test gauge and fittings... but, you could run it, let it sit for a few, and then pull the plugs and check for a fuel odor at a particular cylinder.. Same with the cold start valve. (The old EFI cars were easier since you could just pull the whole fuel rail out with the injectors connected and check for drips.) An easy test for the accumulator is to temporarily pinch off the small line off the back side of it (sort of a "ghetto" test) and see if the problem persists. Good luck.

(BTW -- IMHO this test is far easier with something like this.)

Thumbs up Thanks

Dave and I talked about this and pinching the line to test the accumulator is the most likely to bare fruit, the injectors including the cold start are far from the front line of maybes makes More sense that the fuel pressure is leaking down,to allow vapor into intake and thus cause the over Rich condition upon restart of warm engine, ssssssssso if it isn't the accumulator it would most likely be a check valve at the pumps but they are just a year old.
