94 C280 Throttle Actuator removal & cleaning help
 

Hi All,

Can someone please advise on how to remove and clean the throttle actuator. I was advised to replace it, but figured I'd try cleaning it first and see if that solves the CL "idle system malfunction" code P0505 (NOTE: car w/o ASR). I opened the hood and it's pretty tight. I believe it's at the driver side of the engine bay, but not sure where or how to get to it.

Please include Dos/Don't and what solvent may be used.

Not familiar with your car, so I can't provide specifics. But maybe there is some useful info in my write up for removing the ETA's in my S600.

The basics are probably similar. Your signature states you like to DIY, good for you. If that's true, I would recommend you buy a subscription to Alldatadiy.com. Lots of great info, instructions, test procedures, etc. I have found it very valuable. Start by removing the air intake pipe on top of the engine. Then remove the resonance flap. It's the black box lookin' thingy in the center of the intake manifold. The throttle actuator is beneath it. Make sure you have a new gasket before you take it apart. Have fun. :)
