Help! W202 C220 climate control stop working

Hi all,

I have a 1994 C220 Gasoline (W202) driving in Thailand where the weather is very hot.

About a year or so now, the climate control turns itself off automatically, especially when the engine is kind of cold. The entire display is blank. No light, no display, no air, no response. The only thing to do is to turn off the engine and re-start the engine again. The aircon then returns to normal. Sometimes, it happened once sometimes, it happened twice.

But recently (about 2-4 weeks), this problem gets worse. Aircon turned itself off more often (about 2-7 times) in a 1-2 hours trip. And now, it turned itself off even when the engine is hot.

Can you please kindly advise me what is the problem and what part do I need to fix/replace?

Thanks.

Have you checked the refrigerant level for the AC system?

The refrigerant level is O.K. The aircon unit just completely off.

Check your OVP, take it apart and see if any solder is breaking apart on it. My car was having some electronic issues before and it turned out to be a faulty OVP, and when i took the old one apart, the solder was breaking apart and the car worked fine after I repaired the solder on the board. It doesn't hurt to check it out and attempt repair on it. Also figure out which relay controls the unit and make sure that's fine also. I think the climate unit it fine, as it wouldn't work at all if it were dead, i think you have a relay or electric issue.
