Help Using 2001 3.2 Engine in Classic MB
I am swapping the engine from a 2001 C320 into my 1969 280SL. I am commited to the project, and have a complete wrecked donor car. I know it will physically fit, but the difficulty seems to be adapting the modern electronics into a simple (antique) chassis. There will be no ABS, traction contol, etc. I need to be able to feed the engine "on", "ignition", and "start" and have it run and drive.
I know this can be done, there is a company in Germany that does it, and another company that makes a beatuiful 300SL replica using this engine. Unfortunately none of these guys will reveal any secrets. Help will be greatly appreciated, and will further what I think is a great project. Thanks, John in Knoxville |
best idea would be using programable domestic fuel injection system.

Yes, there are aftermarket injection systems available. They come with a computer, wiring harness, O2 sensor, temp sensors, MAF, etc. I would suggest doing some looking in the Summit Racing catalog or somewhere like that. The hot rod world is full of such stuff.

Do you know of a specific solution?
It looks like these set ups are typically for American Iron. I am not familiar enough with the drivetrain I have (I hope my mechanic is!) but arn't there issues with variable intake lengh, electronic transmission control, etc.

Get the schematic and use the Engine management from the donor car..you just have to get proper feed to the stock electronics...

Dunno if you tried this, but you could visit Gernold Nisius of SLTechw113 in Arundel, Maine. He is the US dealer for Mechatronik, and he has a demo car with a 3.2 in it.
