Transmission rebuild 94 c280 ?
The car began to flare hard last week so I brought it in.
My guy dropped the pan and there are shavings everywhere. I am really surprised, 110k with perfect service history. In fact I just serviced the transmission 3 months ago and it was all clean. How much am I looking at? Tech just quoted me at 3200 rebuild from Germany (via delaer) with 2 yr warranty, and 800 labor. Oh my....... |

There is a fairly common failure of the B2 piston or band that I've read about on this forum, and it can be repaired rather than replacing the whole tranny. |
you probably have a 722.424 transmission in that car and based on your description it has probably suffered from the breakdown of the sprag that fits into the clutches on the front clutch drum.[prob flares on the 2-3 shift] this is not just wear of clutches but a hard part failure.trans man can get any 722.4 trans from salvage yard and fix it for a lot less than the dealer quoted you.p.s.the servicing up to date had very little to do with this problem.the sprag in question is hard riveted to the front side of the planetary gear set and those rivets have failed.

it is unique to the .4's.some engineer got the numbers wrong on how much torque could be fed thru the trans.

Update.
I had the throttle linkage lubed and there is no more "kick" when it shifts. In fact it shifts very soft now. It still stays in gear up to 4500 rpms before the 2-3 (?) shift. However if I gas it nice and light it shifts as it should. Any thoughts? b2 piston? |
don't wait until it quits to fix it then it gets expensive[at least used from yard].
