Fuel Accumulator
 

Today the new accumulator came,I readied my tools and placed the old 420 on the lift,after playing with the stubborn fuel line and finally broke the slip nut from the line it came off.next that dang screw got its turn with the cut off wheel of my dramel,The new was ready to be put in place,No leek all was well,first thing I noticed was the fuel pumps got quieter not sounding like they where running there heart out to keep fuel in the system,this must be a plus,maybe they will last longer! The engine starts now when warmed,still a little shutter on start but not like it was.Miss Debbie and I took a nice ride in the country stopped to eat,Friday fish, and not one sign of trouble,restart was instant and pretty smooth. Hope this helps the next person with similar troubles.JNT:silly:

what symptoms did the car exhibit before you changsd the accumulator?

Slow restart
 

after warmed it would turn over quite some time,longer than normal,and exhibited a rich condition,acted like it was chocking on to much fuel in the intake,It would light off easier if you stepped on the gas peddle.JNT:dizzy2:

I changed mine too along with the fuel pump and filter. But when I restart the car after shut off, say withing 15 minutes, I am hearing a gurgling sound like air is backing up into the tank. My car has only one pump, so I'm thinking the accumulator,even though is new, is still bad. I have also changed all the breather tubes on the engine along with injector seals and cups. Any thoughts?

the fuel pump accumulator is designed to store fuel pressure so that when you first fire up the car it will quickly[les than 1 sec] shoot fuel to the fuel distributor and get the car going.
