Damsel in Distress!!!
Hello guys! Got a question regarding my '87 560 SL. High pressure power steering hose bubbled and leaking real bad. Shop can't get me in till next week!!! Is this something I can do myself??? Keep in mind, I am female, don't know much, but follow directions very well and am not afraid to get my hands greasy. Already replaced return hose and have a new PS filter ready to go in!! Weather is perfect out here in southern CA to take the top off!!!! Can I do this?????

It should be pretty easy, the most difficult part will be loosening the fitting attached to the PS pump, they're pretty tight. Very straight forward. Just make 100% certain that you use 2 wenches, one to hold the nut on the PS pump, and the other to loosen the fitting, otherwise you could damage the pump.

In regards to the hose. Remove the leaking hose and take it to a hydraulic hose rebuilding type of place. Around here I use a company called "Tubes N Hoses". There should be a similar place in your area.

Depends on the hose.
On my '77 pickup the high pressure hose has hose clamps on both ends, so you'd just replace it with some power steering hose. You can do this type. On my '82 Mercedes the high pressure hose has high pressure fittings. If you can get a replacement hose(autoparts or hydraulic hose company) this is also an easy job. If you can't get a replacement it gets involved, and I don't think I'd recommend it.

you are going to have to get under the car to take off the hose at the power steering gearbox and this will be more than just greasy.you will get a bath of power steering fluid.the top connection at the pump is a double flare with paralell threads and is worth at least ten four letter words by the time you get it started going back on.the new hose is available very readily from dealers and others.
