My 380 SEL interior lights dont work any more and as soon as you change the fuse it sparks and shorts out the new one. Where should I look for the short.
Help I can't see at night! What might have caused this??? |
I would start by pulling all of the bulbs, then trying a new fuse with no bulbs in. If the fuse blows, the problem is wiring (does your car have bulbs on the front edges that light when open?). Check any bits of wiring that are subject to any flex like at the door hinges. If the fuse does not blow, then put the bulbs back in one at a time. Dont forget to have a look at each first. You will probably find this is the case and you have a bad bulb. (fingers crossed)

I had this problem in my 81 300SD. The culprit turned out to be the left sunvisor. Simply moving it would blow the fuse. Before you try removing every light (which will take a while), try removing both visors. All you need is a phillips head screwdriver.

...interior lights don't work...dash lights or courtesy lights?
The illuminated visor vanity mirrors are a good start if the courtesy light doesn't work anymore...take out the front courtesy light and disconnect the plug that powers the visor vanity mirrors...and then try fusing the system again... greetingz, BTW Ben, did you already receive the license plate frame? |
Steve, I'm still waiting to receive it. From my experience, it is pretty routine for Europe to U.S. shipping to take a while. I have a friend who lives in Austria, and it can take up to a month to receive things that she sends. I will let you know when the frame arrives. The pay order is on its way.
