I always go to to the dealer sometimes for OEM parts and also to Parts Lane for most of my parts. My next message will be to order parts from Parts lane. I appreciate Mr Scheeler's quick responses and I really like him.
But if you got a carpool commitment to keep and a 6 PM Sunday deadline for parts you may be stuck with a mass supplier.
I have had tremendous luck at pep Boys both on stock and quality for a 240D alternator, A/C compressor and starter motor. I was very impressed with thier quality.
I hope noone at Mercedes Shop gets angry at me for this. I am just trying to help an average person like me trying to get through life stuck in a tight situation on a Sunday night...I would hope to order here to support this site first, but on emergency repairs we do not haver a mail order option.

No problem. You have to do what you have to do!

Please note that Lee Scheeler is not handling parts anymore. He went back to college full time.

Phil is our parts contact now. He's available at philip@peachparts.com or by calling our toll free phone number 1-888-333-4642

I have no problems with pep boys if I have to use em, but I prefer buying my parts OEM, not aftermarket wherever possible.

But you can't go wrong with lifetime warranty Pep boys alternator, water pump, or starter motors.

Used them to those on my jeep, and they have lasted perfectly well, and have that lifetime warranty, so if they ever break, all you pay for is labor.

But when it comes to my benz, unless its an emergency, the parts don't get bought at pep boys. :)

Me Too!!!

Pep Boys is great for Water Wetter, Liquid Glass, Prolong, etc. You get the idea!

But for parts, nada!! I once bought a replacement alternator for my '91 190E. Put it on, worked perfectly . . . for two hours.

Took it back, for a replacement. No hassles. Put it in and guess what happened? But this time it lasted for three days! Got a full refund with no hassle.

Another story: Same car, I could not find a rotor needed for a tune-up at the local MB parts store. So I bought one from Pep Boys! All parts (plugs, dist cap, wires, etc.) were MB/Bosch except for the rotor.

Well, long story short the rotor burned out after a day. Part was made in China. Nuff said.

So buy your lubricants, polish, etc. at Pep Boys, but buy your MB parts from a MB shop!!

I agree...the engagement rings may look identical, but a diamond and a cubic zirconia are two different things.

I like Pep Boys...got a valve cover gasket for the Conquest from them and some tires...not sure I would purchase critical components, though.

Especially for older cars, the suppliers are from places other than the OEM supplier, and are cheaper.

I check carefully even for my Beetle, since a lot of the parts sold are Brazilian or Mexican, and not German.

Taillight bulb...who cares?..carburetor...well......

be careful on the

brake light bulbs. If they are not the correct ones it will cause cc problems.

This I know...what I meant was opting for a 10-watt Sylvania bulb versus going to the dealer to buy an OEM 10-watt Philips bulb (at three times the price), as an example. Just dealing with semantics, here...
